Who Are We Anyways?

It’s time for a proper introduction. You may have asked yourself questions such as:

  1. Who are these blogger people?
  2. What is the purpose of this blog?
  3. Why do they write about doing such weird things? Like the daughter kicking down the bathroom door and the mom giving herself a black eye by walking into a tree at the peak of a trail.

Well, it’s about time we answer these questions and give you a more fulsome description of ourselves. First, we’ll do an introduction together, and then we’ll talk about each other as individuals.

So, here we are – the creators of Our Ordinary Adventures and the ultimate mother-daughter bloggers! We first launched this site in March 2021. It was really just an idea of something fun to do together, and a couple days after, we had created a blog!

The main idea of this blog is, like we said, to have fun, and to invite others on our “ordinary adventures.” Why ordinary? Because we are ordinary people living, in many ways, ordinary lives. There are five of us in our family – Caseigh has two younger siblings. We live in a townhouse in East Vancouver. We enjoy simple things. But we also have a heart for adventure! Some of these adventures might include travel to far away places or great heights. But a lot of these adventures are the kind that just happen as we follow Jesus, day by day. We quite enjoy this wonderful world of blogging and hope to keep writing and growing this space. And, we are glad to have you along!

Meet Caseigh

Name Meaning: Brave and watchful

First Impressions: Caseigh has the best smile you’ve ever seen. It’s her superpower. It’s wattage could light you up for days. Her long, black hair has enviable caramel highlights, and yes, it’s all natural. She is often wearing glasses that frame her delicately drawn, dark brown eyes. She has strong cheek and jaw bones, though she thinks she has chubby cheeks. Well, I guess she inherited my chubby cheeks along with her dad’s bone structure. She is slim and of average height. Her favourite outfit is sweatshirts and leggings. She is comfortably beautiful!

Hanging Out: Caseigh is an instantly likeable girl. She is great company, as proven by her willingness to share chips and chocolate. Beware though, as she does not like her sleep disturbed, and she is not always cheery in the morning. She has great instincts – she knows herself well. After joining in lively conversations, she’ll go off on her own. She is kind and considerate, but she also wants to make a difference in the world around her. At thirteen, she has my admiration and pride. Also, I love that she laughs at my jokes. Unless that’s her laughing at me, and not my jokes? Doesn’t matter. Like I said, her smile is the best, and I will sacrifice my pride to be lit up by it.

Likes and Dislikes: Did I mention chips and chocolate yet? Her favourite places apart from home are the library and on a trail. She particularly enjoys the challenge of the Grouse Grind as opposed to walks in the neighbourhood parks, which are, in her words, “boring.” I think she still has a soft spot for horses and can name over a dozen breeds and their traits. She does not like eggplant or peppers. Ratatouille is lost on her. Another thing – she does not like it when she is not given clear expectations. This I’ve learned since she has started high school. Noted.

Fun Fact: Caseigh was once stranded over a body of water on a zipline. She kept that head of hers cool and beautiful, caught the line that was thrown to her, and pulled herself back up to the perch. I know – right!??

In Other Words: Books, Homesteading, Homeschooler in Highschool, Sushi, Baking, Writing, Annie F. Downs, Wingfeather Saga, T&T.

Meet Sandra

Name Meaning: Defender of humanity

First Impressions: She is slim and on the small side of average height with really pretty, short black hair, and dark brown eyes. She wears either owl glasses or contact lens and likes wearing sweater and jeans. And about the owl glasses…IYKYK.

Hanging Out: My mom is kind, funny, and calm but can be enthusiastic too. She is very spontaneous, so once she gets a good idea, she goes for it, especially when she’s caffeinated! One time I was baking a triple tiered lemon cake (did not go as planned) and my caffeinated mother decided to make mascarpone whipped cream frosting. She looked it up and saw that it only took an hour to make. But she didn’t see that you had to leave it to thicken overnight. It was an interesting way to frost the cake. She’s a great friend and mom, and everyone who knows her loves her. (Except for evil people, because evil people don’t like awesomeness.)

Likes: Hmmmm. Chai tea, writing, reading books on theology, listening to music by people with raspy voices, hiking around BC, and gardening in our yard.

Dislikes: She hates driving around Vancouver during rush hour, being on hold with Telus, most things about social media, and breaking a fried egg. Another thing that drives her crazy is when she makes burritos for dinner but then realizes that she forgot an important topping like sour cream or cilantro.

Fun Facts: She is almost legally blind and wears fuzzy slippers around the house. She’s done the West Coast Trail and hiked the Lions.

C: PS. My name is spelled Caseigh, but it’s pronounced kay-cee. Why my parents liked that spelling, I have no idea. But alas…that is my name.

Some of you may want a picture of us. Well, we don’t do photos, but for something about as risky as having each of us describe each other as we’ve just done, we are posting our continuous line drawings of each other.

The portrait on the left is of Sandra by Caseigh, and the one on the right is Caseigh by Sandra.

Note: These are partly blind, continuous line drawings, emphasis on blind. So, this is not completely accurate. For example, we both actually have teeth.
